PROPOSALS FOR IMPROVEMENTS. ENTHUSIASTIC PUBLIC MEETING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 20, 5.5 p.m. Suva, June t2O. An enthusiastic meeting was held at the Town Hall last evening, the Mayor (Mr. Scott) being the chairman, •favoring European settlement, delegates from the country districts being present. It was resolved: “That in view of the present unsatisfactory economic industrial conditions in Fiji, which we consider can only be improved by European effort, we hope the Government ' will not encourage further Asiatic colonisation in Fiji.” • The meeting expressed appreciation of the Governor’s decision to appoint a committee to inquire into the question of further settlement by Europeans of British origin. The meeting also protested against the granting of equal status to Indians, and decided to establish a European Settlement League. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
