GOLF.

KIRKWOOD FAVORITE FOR BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP. London, June 18. The Daily Telegraph says that Kirkwood is established as favorite for the British golf championship. “Ho is essentially a card-and-pencil fiend, who delights in walking stealthily around the course offering threes and fours; but confronted by an opponent he is less machine-like, and sonletimes suffers from human frailties as at Glen Eagles, where Compston frightened him to death.” The only British players likely to challenge Kirkwood, Hutchison, Hugen and Barnes, are Mitchell, Duncan, and Ray.—Aus.-N.Z.
