STRIKE TO CONTINUE.

FREEZING WORKERS IDLE. POSITION IN SOUTH ISLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ohrietehurch, Last Night. By an overwhelming majority to-day a mass meeting of the Canterbury Freezing Works Employees’ Union decided to continue the strike. The meeting was not open to the Press, but the secretary of the union announced afterwards that it had been decided by two hundred, and eighteen votes to nineteen not to return to work. Christchurch, June 19. On Saturday night un informal meeting of freezing workers was held in the open sir outside the Trades Hall, at which it is understood a large number were present. Information supplied is to the effect that the tone of the meeting was dinstinctly hostile to the continuance of the strike. No union officials were present, the men acting independently of the union. IN SOUTH CANTERBURY. NO CHANGE IN POSITION. Timaru, Last Night. The position at the freezing works is unchanged. No move has been made here yet to get free labor, as in North Canterbury. A number of men are going from Timaru in res]x>nse to that call, and ten went up to-day. It is understood that farmers and farmers’ sons in this district will take a hand to get rid of some thousands of sheep and lambs which it will be difficult to carry through the winter.
