In the Supreme Court, Elsie Siever and another, who claimed £2OOO from Ellis and Burnand, sawmillers, for damage allegedly done to their property by a fire caused by sparks from- defendants' engine, were awarded £l5O. SENTENCES AT GISBORNE. Gisborne, Last NightThe Supreme Court sessions opened, before Mr. Justice Chapman to-day. Three prisoners appeared for sentence. Edward Lightwood Robinson, for falsifying the books of the Tuparoa Trading Company, was sentenced to twelve months; John Holston, for attempted rape on a schoolgirl, received seven years; Thomas Cyril Roy Sangwell, for forging a Savings Bank withdrawal slip, was admitted to probation for two Dan Taukamo was charged with alleged wrongfully carnally knowing a girl under 16 years of age. The jury, after a retirement of four hours and ten minutes, returned a verdict of not guilty, and accused was discharged.
