The Dublin correspondent of the Daily Chronicle states that, of the members already elected, 23 are pro-treaty, 20 anti-treaty, one Independent, and one Labour. Both the latter favour the treaty. The ballot-boxes in Dublin were placed under an armed guard. Sinn Feiners set fire to the stables of a prominent coal merchant, an Orangeman, in Belfast. Twelve horses wore roasted alive, forty vans destroyed, and the entire place gutted. There were nine other tires during the week-end. Several factories and shops were destroyed. The concluding articles of the Irish constitution stipulate that the present courts of justice will continue their functions, also the adoption of the constitution by the Constituent Assembly and the British Parliament shall be announced not later than December 6, 1922. when the constitution comes into operation. The Cork election resulted: Day (Labourite). 6836: Deroiste (Pro-Treaty), 6147; Walsh (Pro-Treaty), 6097; Miss M'Swiney (Republican). 6066. Unsuccessful candidates were: Beamish (Commercial), 4769; Daly (Independent), 3043; Lord Mayor O’Callaghan (Republican). 1307.
