A TOWN HALL.
NEW PLYMOUTH PROJECT. SUGGESTION BY THE MAYOR. “If the theatre project, which is now* , being placed before the public, is not sue- * ceasful, I would like to ask councillbre if they would authorise a meeting of citizens with a view to the erection of a town hall on the section opposite the railway station,” said the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) at last night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council. “A town hall is badly needed,” continued Mr. Wilson, “and we should take the feeling of the eitizenis on the matter.” The Mayor made it clear that it was not proposed to take any action juat at present which would prejudice the theatre project. Personally, he was not in f&vor of a municipal theatre, as he thought it would not pay in a town of the size of New Plymouth. A municipal town . ball, which could have a stage for theatrical purposes, was, however, a different matter. The subject was not discussed further.
