ARREST OF BEVAN.
EXTRADITION PROCEEDINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received June 18, 5.5 pjn. Vienna, June 17. Charged in the Criminal Court, the man arrested on Thursday admitted he was Gerard Bevan, and that he waa living under an assumed name with a French woman. It is reported that Bevan, after attempting to commit suicide, made a statement that he had not gained anything from the irregularities in the City Equitable finances. Extradition .proceedings are being taken.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. When the City Equitable trouble was discovered and the crash took place, Gerard Bevan, chairman of the company, escaped to the Continent- Since his departure he was declared bankrupt, enormous claims being made against his estate, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of fraud.
