THE TAUPO TREMORS.

A CONTROVERSIAL SUBJECT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Rotorua, June 17. The widest divergence of opinion is being expressed as to the origin of the tremors and agitation of the earth’s crust by the people of Taupo. Some believe them, while others, who have lived in the district for years, hare never experienced such a lengthy visitation. According to the latest news from Taupo, save for few noises and minor shocks, the night passed quietly. The natives report that thermal activity has increased at Orakei and Korako, about 40 miles from Rotorua, and geysers which have been quiescent for years have again become active.
