The concert given by the Stratford i Musical Society in the Town Hall last night in aid of the Russian famine rel lief fund was a distinct success, the • latter portion of the programme being • especially popular. The performance showed evidence of painstaking rehearsals, and further good work may be expected -from the society with more frequent appearance in public. Opening with an orchestral overture, vocal and instrumental items followed, members rendering the “Soldiers’ Chorus,” “To the Death,” and “Break! Break! Break” and Miss Milner and Mrs. Henry gave a duet and dance, “If You "Were the Only Boy and I Were the Only Girl,” the dressing in the latter item being very effective and unusual. The second portion of the programme was largely taken up by a beautilul Gipsy scena, for which the society are deserving of great credit. A dance in this scena, given by Miss Rita Grubb, was very popularly received, and other special items were “Come, for It’s June” and “Way Down” (Miss D. Phillips), “Where My Caravan Has Rested” (Airs, S. Robinson), “Rose Of Aly I Heart” (Miss Milner and Mr. Stephen!son), Moon Dear” (Miss Sheahan), I and the choruses, “Gipsy Chorus,” “Oh I Hush Thee My Baby,” and ‘ ‘Angels I That Around Us Hover.” i During an interval the Rev. Howard, lon behalf of the Russian Relief Fund ! Committee, thanked the society for their splendid effort to aid the fund. He said it was almost impossible to believe that anyone could refuse to give something to this fund. He only hoped that those who refused to subscribe would never know the horror of a famine like that in Russia. The fund should appeal to the best traditions of Christianity for which the British Empire stood. Mr. Howard referred appreciatively to the fact that Stratford had subscribed £l4O to the fund £lOO having already been sent to Russia. GUN CLUB SHOOT.
