NEW COAL SEAM.

DISCOVERY IN STATE MINE. BEST HOUSEHOLD ARTICLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Grey mouth, Last Night. To-day the workmen engaged at the main heading of the new State colliery, the James mine, struck the main seam as indicated by the boring operations some time ago. The seam is over seven feet thick, showing itself permanent and growing in dimensions. The find is important, the seam being of the best household coal. The coalfield was prospected by Mr. James O’Brien, whose boring reports are now borne out, despite rumours recently that the field would prove a “duller.” Hitherto headings had been driven in broken country, but faults have now been surmounted and the mine provides an excellent outlook.
