THE “AARD” SERVICE.

WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT STANDS FOR. The now frequently seen device “Aard” on the front of an up-to-date, powerful touring car often excites curiosity. One constantly hears the query: “What does it mean?” Briefly, “Aard” is an association of reliable" motor services which have combined to help the travelling public and each other- The well-known maxim “Unity is strength,” applies aptly to the “Aard” service of cars. In each important town the garage with the most reliable, up-to-date; and comfortable cars, driven by thoroughly competent drivers, has been chosen to form a link in the chain of “Aard” service stations throughout the country. It is now possible with their efficient organisation to arrange a trip from end to end of New Zealand, using the “Aard” service throughout, the traveller being passed on from one “Aard” representative to another in succession. There is no need to worry about hotel accommodation, as this can be arranged ahead by wire and another “Aard” car will be found awaiting the car on his arrival. It may be saTd in passing that each “Aard” station is run quite independently, but all work together for the common good. If desired, of course, for an extended tour, the services of one driver and one car can be secured throughout.

An important innovation which it is proposed to commence probably in July or August, is a Sunday “through” service between New Plymouth and Napier, and New Plymouth ’ and Taihape. An “Aard” car will leave New Plymouth about 7.30 a.m. each Sunday, arriving at Palmerston North about 12-30. where it ■will link up with other “Aard” cars for Wellington, Napier and Taihape, which will leave about 1.30 p.m., getting through to their respective destinations the same day. Similarly travellers from Wellington, Napier or Taihape will be able to get through to New Plymouth in the same way. This service is being given a trial on account of the numerous inquiries from travellers who, whilst urgently desiring to get through to distant towns at the week-end, do not feel disposed to hire a car exclusively for themselves. It is proposed to make fares as reasonable as possible, for example the fare from New Plymouth to Palmerston North will be approximately £2 2s. It is to be hoped that the travelling public generally will accord this enterprising venture, which has been inaugurated for their comfort and convenience, a full measure of support. If this is forthcoming it is hoped eventually to extend the services to a daily one. The local “'Aard” representative is Mr. GGibson, White Hart Stables, Queen Street, New Plymouth, ‘phone 506, who will be pleased to answer any inquiries relating to “Aard” services.
