BOXING.
TO-NIGHT’S CONTESTS. AN INTERESTING PROGRAMME. There should be no need to remind enthusiasts of the big boxing event that takes place to-night in the Coronation Hall, New Plymouth, when J. Heeney, of Gisborne, will meet L. Whitaker, of Wellington, both of whom are right in the first flight of their classes in the Dominion. Whitaker arrived in New Plymouth on Wednesday night, and Heeney last night. Both men look very fit, and each is confident of securing the big end of the purse, so that a great contest is assured. The preliminaries also should be something out of the ordinary, as the finals of the territorial and senior cadet matches, the preliminaries of which were fought on Thursday, will be decided, and there should be some keen and clever contests. The special bouts also should prove very attractive. The complete programme is as follows: •Special bout.—A. Collins (Stratford) v. D. Childs (Stratford)., Final middle-weight senior cadets and territorials.—E. Webber (New Plymouth) v. C. A. Whiting (Eltham) ; W. G. Coombe (Opunake) v. W. Coates (Omata) ; G. McMillan (Awakino) v. V. Brosnan (New Plymouth). Final bantam-weight senior cadets and territorials. —R. Duddlng (Stratford) v. Chas. Anderson (New Plymouth) ; A. F. Graham) (Tahora) v. S. Smith (New Plymouth). Final feather-weight senior cadets and territorials.—E. C. Dudding (Stratford) v. Gibson (New Plymouth) ; L. McGuire (Riverlea) v. P. Webber (New Plymouth). Professional contest. —Jack Heeney (Gisborne) v. Cyril Whitaker (Wellington).
