THE PEOPLE’S. “UNDER THE LASH.” Gloria Swanson lias never appeared to better advantage than her characterisation of the ill-treated Boer wife in “Under the Lash.” her latest production. featured at the People's last night. This typical story of South African .life gives the gifted star a wonderful opportunity to show her exceptional dramatic talents. The story will interest all lady patrons—that of the struggle of a woman against love and a lovelier marriage. The final screening takes place to-night and the programme is well worth seeing.

WAIKIKI HAWAIIANS. MANAIA TO-NIGHT. This talented company appears at Manaia to-night. Writing of this fine company, a critic reports them as being a particularly good combination. He adds: The entertainment is a unique one, and full of pleasant surprises. Mr. Keoke Greig, producer, is a most accomplished artist. Altogether, Mr. Keoke Greig is amongst the first rank of musical artists. Miss Lilliokalani’s performance was a revelation, and she was given an ovation. Every member of the talented company appeared to be perfectly at home either with the guitar, mandolin, or ukelele, and thus throughout the whole performance there was a feast of concerted music. The Milo Quartette made the theatre ring to the applause of a delighted audience. A fine insight is given to the evening customs of the Hawaiians, and the stage settings, with electric effects, were quite clever. The latter was carried out by Mr, Phillips, the company’s own electrician. 4t is expected •the'te will be a crowded house. ' The box plan is at Lewins.
