FRUITGROWERS’ CONFERENCE
A CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 16. At the Fruit-growers’ Conference today a special committee reported on export trade matters and recommended that a permanent committee should be established to which all export matter* should be referred, the committee to consist of representatives of the various districts and to act in a consultative capacity with the directors of the federation and departmental officers on all matters relating to the export of fruit. The Nelson delegates opposed the proposal, being quite satisfied to leave the export matter to the directors. The clause was adopted. Various remits dealing with the export of apples were discussed, and the majority referred to the new committee.
Wellington. Last Night. It was resolved that the Government be approached to consider the advisability of formulating an insurance policy to cover all risks in connection with the export of fruit, and to guarantee a return to the grower of a penny per pound net, the federation to submit a scheme of Government insurance and advances to cover deterioration and losses, including bad markets, up to & penny per pound net on the whole of the growers’ export fruit. It was decided to ask the Government. to continue the guarantee of a. penny per pound on exported fruit.
