At a conference betwee cattle-owners and Government representives, to devise methods of eradicating tic-infected North Coast areas, Mr. Valder, Under-Secretary for Agriculture, stated tbit since 1906 the Government’s efforts to ombat the pest had cost £lOO,OOO, and tb position was no better than when they sorted. Continued spending on present line would be a further waste of money.

Other speakers attrib ted the failure to farmers not reporting he presence of the pest and falling back -i the efforts of the department. Three-fourths of tl cattle in the Tweed district were affecte/by tick, and the pest has now been founcjutside the proclaimed areas.
