June 14. | At a meeting of the Stratford Tech* | nical High School Advisory Board on | Monday night matters of importance regarding the laying out of the school . grounds were discussed. A report was received from the subcommittee dealing with the application for a subsidy from the Education Department to* the funds in hand. A claim will be forwarded to the department based on an expenditure of £-1859, the subsidy aimed at being £ for £, which would bring the available funds up to the sum mentioned t The proposal to call tenders for the ! laying out of the football and hockey • grounds was lost on the voices, and an amendment was carried that the work be done by day labor, the workmen to be paid 14s per day. The matter of engaging labor was left to the chairman and the engineer. The completed scheme for ground j improvements comprises forming and > grading of the roads to the main entrance from the two gates, tennis courts, forming, grading and grassing the football and hockey grounds, swimming baths, basket ball playing grounds, fives courts, a complete system of hedges and shelter belts, and I tar-sealing the roadways. The intenj tion is to make the swimming bath an ■ ’ up-to-date one, 50 yards by 8 yards. A SMALL FIRE. A fire occurred at about 6.30 tonight at the residence of Mr. W. Condon, in Cordelia Street. Some delay was experienced in getting in touch ' vith the brigade, and the fire had a good hold in a partition between two rooms. The firemen, however, were soon on the scene and quickly had the flames extinguished before* much damage was done. THE DRUIDS’ LODGE. The installation and investiture of officers for the ensuing term was held in the Foresters’ Hall last night. Strai- ( ford members showing interest in the’: lodge by attending in strength, just on 50 members being present, and PateaHawera, and Eltham visiting Druids brought the total up to about 80. The installation was carried out by District President Bro. Ure as follows: Arch Druid, Bro. W. Ferguson; Vice Arch, Bro. J. Aitken; secretary, Bro. J. Jones (re-elected); treasurer, Bro. H. Burmister (re-elected); 1.G., Bro. B. Jeffries; 0.G.,<8r0. W. Martin; A.D.8., Bros. Rowe and Mumby; V.A.8., Bros. Wilson and Hyndman; Press representative, Bro. Burmister. After the lodge business, the brothren spent a very pleasant time round the festive board. The usual toasts were honored in the Druidic way: “King and Druids,” proposed by Arch Druid Grand Lodge, J.P.A. Bros. Fenwick and D.P. Bro. Ure. “Newly Installed Officers,” P.A. Bro. Richard 9071, responded to by P.A.D. and officers. “Visitors,” P.A. Bro. Smith, responded • to by different visitors. “Ladies,” Bro. Martin, responded to by Bro. Milner. “Tress,” P.A. Bro. The Druids journeyed to Denbigh ; Road last night to play the local team for the Darragh Shield, when the | Druids won by ten games.
