SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. The annual conference of the Taranaki School Committees' Association will be held at Inglewood this afternoon. The annual report states: "During the year the activities of the association have been fairly well maintained, though in some centres full use is not made of the opportunity of creating live interest in educational matters. In centres where branches are formed more regular meetings should ho held and educational questions discussed. There is still room for the establishment of branches in several localities- The executive desires to draw special attention to> the urgent need for all school committees taking more notice of the trend of educational control, and greater interest in the affairs of the association. The inroads into the powers of committees and boards, the tremendous powers now possessed by the department under the system of government by regulation, proposals for 'altering the primary course of instruction before such proposals have been fully explained and understood by the people who after all have to pay for all experiments, are sufficient reasons why this district should have a completely organised and united school committees’ association, not only to protect . school committees but to promote the best interests of the children. Committees are reminded that the election of one member for each ward to the Education Board takes- place on Wednesday, July 19, the nominations for which close on June 28.”
