“CUT” CAUSES STRIKE.

FREEZING WORKERS IDLE. By Tel«gr*Pb—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night- j At the Pareora Freezing Works this I morning the Dominion Secretary and union officers from Christchurch addressed the men, also visiting Southfield. At Pareora the voting was in favour of carrying on, but at one o’clock the slaughtermen did not turn to. All labourers in other departments were tvarking as usual, but with the cessation if butchering these must also automatically close down. The same state of affairs exiets at Smithfield, where no killing is taking place. It is understood the butchers are willing to carry on, but they obeyed the call. The trouble concerns the bonus cut. A considerable quantity of stock is coining forward, but it is stated that killing will not be resumed on principle until an agreement is recched with the companies.
