Several hundred persons have been irowned at San Salvador owing to a river overflowing its banks. Three hundred bodies have been recovered. Great property damage has been done. —Aus.-NJZ. Cable Assn. San Salvador is the capital of the republic of Salvador, an island of the Bahamas, and the first land seen byColumbus in the New World. It is situated on the slope of a volcano, and the town has more than once been destroyed by earthquakes. The population is Go,ooo.
