Orders for papers may also be left with him. PUBLIC SERVICE SALARY “CUT? A PROTEST RECORDED. June 12. Members of the various public service organisations met at Stratford on Saturday night for the purpose of discussing the question of salaries, and particularly the second “cut” provided for by the Public Expenditure Adjustment Act. The attendance numbered about seventy, representing all departments having local branches, and the following resolution was carried unanimously:— “That this meeting, representing all departments of the State services in the Stratford district, lodges a most emphatic protest against the further reduction in salaries proposed to take place next month, and, in view of the recent pronouncement of the Arbitration Court and the cost of living figures issued by the Government Statistician, urges the Government not to proceed with the reduction; and further, that those present pledge themselves to support their executives in any action they may deem .necessary.” Mr. R. -Masters, M P., was present by invitation. He answered questions, and delivered a brief but instructive address upon the state of the public finances and other matters of interest, for which he, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. GENERAL ITEMS. Mrs. W. H. Robinson became seriously ill on Saturday and was admitted to the Stratford Hospital. To-day an operation for appendicitis was successfully performed, and Mrs. Robinson is progressing satisfactorily. T. Lama son’s meat sale will be held to-day at 2 p.m. Country subscribers not receiving their Daily News regularly are asked to immediately notify our circulation manager, care Mr. W. H.
