THIS WEEK’S TOURNAMENT. TWO SPLENDID PROGRAMMES. a Taranaki boxing enthusiasts are promised a treat this week, the Taranaki Boxing Association having arranged a two-nights’ tournament in the Coronation Hall commencing on Thursday and continuing on Saturday. On Thursday night a professional contest nas been arranged between two well-known local men. Geo. Richardson, who is said to be right back to his old form, and Len. McAsey, the promising young Lepperton boxer, whose last appearance was against Cadman. Since then he has considerably Improved, and is confident that he will more than extend his opponent. The preliminaries will be in the hands of Taranaki territorials and senior cadets, and among them are some well-kmiwn performers, as well as several who are new to the ring but are said to include some surprise packets. The price of admission on Thursday has been fixed at a moderate figure. The great match is’ staged on Saturday night, between J. Heeney and C. Whitaker. It is generally considered that Taranaki is fortunate in ’having men of their calibre to box in the district, and it is certain that the enterprise displayed by the local association in arranging this match will be rewarded by a bumper house. Indeed, this is almost assured, as the match Is arousing great Interest right throughout Taranaki. Both men are ?n good nick, and the bout should prove the best contest ever staged here. For the preliminaries some good amateur bouts have been arranged, including the finals of the Thursday night preliminaries, and five special bouts between leading amateurs. Mr. Frank Burns, of Auckland, will referee on each evening, and complete arrangements are being made by the committee to ensure the comfort of patrons. MATCHES IN AUSTRALIA. Pat Mills (10 st. 6% lb) beat Jack Dillon (10 st. G lb) on points after a hard contest, in which heavy blows were exchanged. Dillon was several times almost knocked out. The second contest was between Herb. Thompson (11 st. 13 lb) and Jack Hill (11 st. OVs lb). The latter was disqualified In the eleventh round, owing to his second entering the ring before the end of the round in the eleventh. A hard right to the chin dropped Hill for eight seconds, and it was at this stage that his second entered the ring. Received June 11, 5.5 p.m. Meblourne, June 11.
