INGLEWOOD.
(From Gur Own Correspondent.) The junior football team of the local primary school journeyed to Egmont Village on Thursday. The match was keenly contested and resulted in a draw, three points each. Clive Petersham captained the Inglewood boys. The seniors of Inglewood School meet the seniors of Stratford Primary School this (Saturday) morning at Inglewood, and an interesting tussle is anticipated. The second round of the Inglewood Cribbage Club’s winter tournament was played on Tuesday night, when the results were:—Bowlers 20 v. Druids 18; Bristol Road 28 v. Kairmiro 22; Kalin ata 23 v. Bacon Factory 22. Owing to Lincoln Road being unable to provide a team this winter, and Egmont Village withdrawing from thecompetition, Foresters and Fire Brigade each took a bye. This condition, in a way, dislocates the drawing for the first half of the tourney, but is thought best to continue as fixed. The drawing for next round is:— Kaimata v. Bowlers, Bacon Factory v. Fire Brigade. Kairmiro v. Foresters, Druids and Bristol Road each a bye. To avoid clashing with other fixtures the third round will be played on Thursday night, 15th inst. Residents of Inglewood county have to thank the Maketawa Dairy Company for upholding the honor of this district at the New Plymouth Winter Show in the butter exhibition classes by securing the following prizes, viz., third in the Lovell and Christmas competition, second in the Taranaki Agricultural Society’s competition for champion cup, second for the N. Z. D. Managers’ Trophy, and to congratulate Mr. V. P. Robinson, the manager, on his success; also to compliment Mr. W. Meyer, assistant at the samp factory, for having secured fifth place in the novice class competition amongst nineteen competitors. with a score of 94 points in a very close contest, when 954 was the highest and 91A the lowest. Those competitions in which Mr. Robinson took prizes were closely contested by numerous contestants, viz., 19, 18 and 16 respectively ? and he scored within Vz a point in two of them and 1 point in the other. In the cheese competitions Tariki came 11th out of 16 for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s cup and 10th out of 15 for the Union S.S. Co.’s trophy (to the credit of Mr. McCallum, the manager) and 6th out of 16 in the Novice Class (to the credit of Mr. S. Walker, ‘the assistant in the Tariki Factory). Rugby Road and Kaimata factories also competed and, though they did not gain prominent places, are deserving of encouragement for further trials.
