FOOTBALL.

TARANAKI RUGBY UNION. THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. INCIDENT AT MIDHIRST. A meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union was held last night, at Stratford. Present: Messrs. Jas. McLeod (chairman), A. P. Neilson, W. A. Guy, W. H. Moyes, L. G. Beamish, F. Mason, W. B. Fearon, R. F. Harkness, A. J. Papps, Jas. Garcia, and G. E. Jago (secretary). Mr. A. Klee, referee in the match between Midhirst and Toko Juniors, played at Midhirst on June 1, reported that a whistle had been blown by a spectator on the line, holding up the game at a time when it looked as though Midhirst would have scored. This would have altered game, as at the time the score wm Taft? 6, Midhirst 3. He had endeavored to find out who was the offender, but without result. The Midhirst Club afeo wrote stating that outside barrackers had visited the ground, and they asked that the match should be replayed.

Mr. Harkness said that he had refereed at Midhirst the previous day, and had warned the officials that if there was any trouble the ground was liable to be disqualified. He had also delegated three of the club’s officials to control the ground.

It was stated that there had been trouble on some of the central division grounds over the encroachment of players, and the Referees’ Association had passed a resolution on the subject of keeping the ground clear.

Mr. Klee, who appeared, explained the circumstances, and remarked that had ths visiting team been the attackers he would have felt justified in awarding a try, but as it was the home team who were responsible for the control of the ground, ho did not.

The chairman said that if it was necessary for referees to take any drastic action they could be assured of the union’s support.

It was stated that the offender* was known, but that there would be difficulty in proving it. ; It was decided to ask the Midhirat club if they could throw any light on the subject.

It was also decided to replay the match on a neutral ground (Stratford), on a date to be arranged. L. Andrews, referee in the Clifton-Tu-kapa first junior match, reported that he had ordered off D. Telfar, of the Clifton team, and H. Halley, of the Tukapa dub. He considered the former the main offender. It was decided that Telfar should be suspended for four playing Saturdays and Halley for two playing Saturdays. E. Andrews, referee in the Star-Old Boys first junior match on May 20, reported that he had warned a Star player, A. Milla, for continually appealing and disputing km decisions, and at the interval the ptayer had abused and insulted him, and he bed ordered him to stand down.—Suspended _ for six weeks. Consideration of the case in which an Eltham club official was reported by the - referee in the El th am-Old Boys match was deferred until next meeting, when evidence will be taken. Consideration of the case of the Star Club official reported for insulting language to the referee was left to the Nev Plymouth niembers to enquire into and report on. REINSTATEMENTS. Reinstatements were granted as fofiow* Senior to first junior—Tukapa, A. E. Andrews, Moicelan; Okaiawa, Johns Mann; Stratford, J. Butcher, J. Bonner; R&hotu, F. Baker; Patea, A. Thomas; Star, L. Sturmey. Third to fourth junior—Clifton, R. Foreman, R. Furze, M. Preston, and M. Frost, subject to the age limit being right The application of Tukapa for the winstatement of B. Hurley was referred to the New Plymouth members. Rahotu’s application for the reinstatement of H. Gilhooley was refused. GENERAL. The Manawatu union wrote offering to play Taranaki at Stratford on August 10. —Agreed to. It was resolved to try and arrange si match between Taranaki B and Wanganui B, at Hawera, as a curtain-raiser to the Taranaki-Wellington match on July 5, at Hawera. It was resolved to play a North v. South' match at Stratford on Thursday, June 29. It was resolved to ask Wairoa to suggest a date on which they could meet the Taranaki emergency team at Eltham on any Thursday. The Deputy-Commissioner of Stamp Duties notified that on the occasion of the charity matches on June 24, the gates would be exempt from the amusement tax.

It was resolved to play a third round in the B senior competition. Messrs. D. J. Malone and R. R. Tyrer waited on the unton in connection with the finance of the Referees’ As- | sociation. They stated that this year they had attempted to organise the aa- , sociation on better lines than hitherto, and it was thought they had been somewhat successful. It was now proposed to hold a conference with a view to having uniform rulings throughout the district. They asked that a grant of £2O should be made.—Granted. In accordance with notice of motion, Mr. McLeod moved: “That the union’s existing interpretation of the ‘place of abode’ rule that residence of three nights; per week be sufficient qualification of residence, and that future interpretations shall be that a player be entitled to play for the dub within whose boundaries he for the time being is in bona fide employment, or the dub within whose boundaries he has hia permanent residence.”—Carried.
