MEETING OF DOMINION COUNCILREPORT ON REMITS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association was continued today, the president, General Sir A. H. | Ruesell being in the chair. I The Organisation and Constitution ! Committee brought up a report on a j number of remits. The committee reI commended that certain remits be ; struck out. “Your committee feels,” continued the ! report, “that the reasons for ite action are self evident. In its opinion, it is highly desirable that the constitution, which has been subjected to radical alteration year by year since the inception of the association, is now in such form that it should be left as it stands, so as to ensure the smooth -working of the association. The alterations proposed were all of a minor nature, and in many cases (in the opinion of your committee) would not have been well received by a large section of the council.” The committee also recommended that the council reaffirms the desirability of continuing the district scheme organisation as at present provided for in the rules, but that no alterations whatsoever be made in the constitution this year. The committee reported it could not make any recommendation regarding affiliation with the British Empire Service League. The conference passed a resolution approving of the principle of the Empire scheme of migration having for its object the more even distribution of the population of the Empire. The resolution expressed the opinion that the immigration of ex-service men and their families is too important to this Dominion to allow of its stoppage and urged that the present system restricting immigration to only those who are nominated be discontinued, and that the best type of immigrant obtainable be selected by experienced officers in London. It was suggested also that the Government should make ample provision for absorbing immigrants by providing a progressive scheme of agricultural training, land settlement and opening up suitable avenues of employment before arrival.
