At the Police Court the trial of Thomas Henry Allaway, who is charged with the murder of Miss Wilkins at Bournemouth, has begun. The defence intimated their intention of attempting to prove an alibi. The discovery of the dead body of Miss Wilkins on the side of a road near Bournemouth was made on December 24. The head had been battered in, apparently with a heavy motor tool, and there was evidence that a severe struggle had taken place Wilkins had advertised for employment, and received a telegram to go to Bournemouth, where she would be met by a motor-car.
