SCOTCH CONCERT.
AN ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. Memories of Old Scotland were recalled by a Scotch concert, given at the Workers’ Social Hall, New Plymouth, last night. The hall was crowded by an audience who thoroughly appreciated every item presented, encores and even double encores in some cases being the rule of the evening. Songs were contributed by Mrs. AC B. Macdonald, Mrs. D. H. Thomson and Miss Leitch, and Messrs. Fred Baird, W. L. Hay, F. P. Predric, F. E. Gooder and D. H. Thomson. A violin solo was contributed by Mr. R. Murphy and a cornet solo by Mr. R. Taylor, whilst humorous items contributed by Mr. W. G. Holder found popular favor. An international reel was danced by the Misses Jean Main, Tui McRae and B. Ross, whilst three girls and a boy from Opunake danced a reel as a finale. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. and Mr. F. P. Fredric and Mr. H. Morey, whilst the pipers were PipeMajor Sinclair and Mr. Shepherd. The .singing of “God Save the King” and “Auld Lang Syne” brought a very successful conceit to a close, after which the hall was cleared for dancing. The proceeds of the concert and dance were in aid of the funds of the newly-formed New Plymouth Pipe Band, which should as a result benefit to a considerable extent. Pipe-Major Sinclair, of the Ibcal Pipe Band, met with a rather serious accident yesterday afternoon, which prevented him from turning out with the band as previously arranged, but he attended and played for the opening reel, under difficulties, and also for the highland fling by Miss Jean Main.
