POULTRY ON SHOW.
NEW PLYMOUTH EXHIBITION. WINTER SHOW ATTRACTION. CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED. The annual poultry show which is held in connection with the Winter Show at New Plymouth is each year gaining in popularity, thanks to the splendid work done by the energetic committee, of which Mr. A. P. Lister is chairman. A striking example of this was seen yesterday, when the entries were quite 200 in excess of any that the society has had at any previous show. The quality was on the whole good, the judge (Mr. A. C. Johnstone, of Auroa) having no light task. Several championships had been allotted the society by the North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association, whilst the New Zealand Leghorn Club’s valuable shields were also being competed for. Naturally this drew competition from all parts of the North Island, and it is pleasing to note that the three valuable trophies remain in Taranaki this year. One of them, the Collinson and Cunninghame Shield, for English Brown and White Leghorns, remains here permanently, as by winning it the fourth time Messrs. Stewart and Landsberg, the well-known Normanby fanciers, won it outright. The American White Leghorn shield, for the best bird in the show, was won by James Bros., of New Plymouth, whilst W. T. Kisby, also of New Plymouth, won the Utility White Leghorn Shield. The Minorca championships go to Doig and Thomas, of Brooklyn; the Hamburgs to W, A. J. Marsh (Motonui) and W*. Hall (Lepperton) ; the Bantam championship to Betts Bros. (New Plymouth) and A. F. Lister (New Plymouth). The detailed prize list is crowded out, and will appear to-morrow.
