DOMINION TRADE.
NOVEMBER TO APRIL. STEADY IMPROVEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 7. The balance of trade of the Dominion shows an encouraging recovery, according to the Government Statistician’s figures covering the period which has been marked by anxiety in public and private financial circles. It will be remembered that in March, 1920, imports roughly balanced exports, then, owing to the abnormal influx of goods imports increased until the excess over exports in October, 1920, was £3.000,000. After that a recovery set in, modest at first and interrupted by a slight set-back last winter, and thence onward the improvement has been steady and progressive, except in March last, when imports showed a small excess over exports. The figures for sLx months, Nov« ember to April, follow:
*Decrease. The balance shown by the above figures, it should be remembered, is subject to modification by reason of the fact that in favor of imports are Government and local body loans, immigration, which introduces new capital, and additions to the bank balances in London. Contrariwise exports are affected by instalments of interest and loan repayments.
