MEETINGS. STAR MEMORIAL. A T a Meeting of the General Committee, held on Thursday, Ist.inst., the following resolution was passed: “That in order to ascertain more fully the opinion of the Ratepayers on the proposal to remove the restriction on the title to the land on which it is proposed to erect the Cenotaph, further public meetings be held, and, further, that petitions be circulated for signature amongst ratepayers.” And in connection with above, a public meeting will be held in the Empire Theatre at 8 p.m. on MONDAY, sth instant. A large attendance of the General Public at this meeting is absolutely essential, as the Committee feels the Council will not take any further action unless evidence is given them that the Committee’s suggested site has the strong endorsement of public opinion.
