SCULLING.
HANNAN DEFEATS WELLS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Blenheim, June 3. The match for the sculling eli amt pionship of New Zealand and a purse of £2OO, subscribed by the people of Picton, between Pat Hannan and "Juunbo” Wells, both of Blenheim, was got off to-day. The weather was wretched, rain falling in torrents all day, but conditions were satisfactory for sculling, the water being like glass. a good start was effected, but Hannan, the holder of the championship, was obviously a class ahead of Wells, and drew steadily away. When half the journey had been covered, Hannan was leading by a length and a half. At this stage Wells informed the umpire that his slide had broken, and he and his boat were picked up by a launch. Hannan finished the course alone, covering the distance in Zimin. Msec.
The attendance was poor on account of the weather. The purse was paid over in the presence of a big crowd at the Picton Theatre at night. ,
