TEACHING AGRICULTURE.
THE BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS. RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS. Results of the Northern Division competitions in carrots, and mangolds in connection with Taranaki boys’ and girls’ clubs are available. The judges, in supplying the results of these competitions before they are discussed by the executive, are doing so on account of the nearness of the New Plymouth winter show, at which the competitors in the scheme are competing. While, therefore, no official report can now be made for publication, they make the following comment:— “The plots in most cases were up to expectations, when the fact is remembered that this is the first year. In some cases a little more interest taken by the adult members would have given greater and better results.” The judges wish to express their appreciation of the kindness and work of the local supervisors, school committee and teachers, who gave considerable time and energy to make these competitions the success they were. The results, in brief, are:— CHAMPIONSHIPS. Mangolds.—Amy Phillips (Mimi), 283 points; Colin Henry (Bell Block), 2235; Tom Graham (Waitara), 209.
