WOMEN WHO DRINK.

HOTEL VISITS DISCOURAGED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the Licensing Committee Mr. Widdowson, S.M.. brought under the notice of licensees several matters which required attention or remedying. One of these was about drinking by women at certain hotels and the encouragement given them to do so. The committee, he said, recognised that women had a right to drink in hotels, but licensees must discourage the custom as much as possible. He also mentioned that when the police visited certain hotels they were pot admitted as quickly as they should be. Apparently means had been found to give a warning of the approach of the police. If further complaints ww received action would be taken to atop the practice.
