THE DAIRY POOL. A GLIMPSE INTO THE FUTURE. (To the Editor.) Sir,—On reading the following, what an enlightening view is opened up of what fortune the future may hold for those who may run the great dairy combine, and as a consequence how miserably thin the poor. -compelled” producer may become: — ‘•PRODUCE POOL.” “SCHEME OFFICIALLY EXPLAINED.” “Mr. T. C. Brash, secretary of the National Dairy Association of New Zealand, Ltd., writes as follows: — “ •(6) The Government to introduce legislation to make compulsory the marketing of all dairy produce through the company.’ (Last paragraph): ‘lt is anticipated confidently that satisfactory arrangements in connection with the proposed company can be made for those individual companies, whose circumstances call for special consideration.’ ” Ye Gods! Compulsory to all, but special treatment to some. Why not to a favored few with a “pull”? And if discrimination of producing companies, why not of vendors? “(5) It is distinctly understood that the ordinary channels of distribution will be used.” .-Oh, yes, 'but who is to say that the channels won’t be narrowed and a -favored few get t’he plums? And such favors are, you know, often rewarded. No wonder we read in the cables the following:—“lt may be that the five correspondents, as agents or promoters of the pool, feel themselves safeguarded as regards supplies, but no satisfactory assurance has been offered to the rest of the trade” —I am, etc., ONE OF THE POSSIBLE VICTIMS.
