LABOR’S OFFER TO LIBERALS. JOIN TO DEFEAT GOVERNMENT! By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Tn the course of a brief reference during ; his speech to-night to the coming elections, the Premier said Mr. Holland had said be would help Mr. Wilford win the present Government out, on condition that the Liberals did what Labor dictated when they occupied the Treasury benches, otherwise they would help to win Liberals out. That statement had been made manly and straightforwardly by Mr. Holland in a speech to his constituents. Mr. Massey said he would not hold office for two minutes longer than he could help, if he were dependent upon the support of the extremists. He wished to impress on the people of the country the importance of a stable Government until they got through the present crisis ’’’Here Were only about two on the Treasury benches now who were with him when they started, but the members of the present Government were of the same characteristics as the first, and he held their aim thronghout bad been the same, and he pointed to their record of administration, which, he contended, entitled the Government to another term of office. THE PATEA SEAT. MR. CORRIGAN SELECTED. A Hawera telegram states that a meet, ing of Liberal and Labor supporters selected Mr. J. R. Corrigan, the well-known Hawera farmer, to contest the Patea Mat at the general election.
