NEWS OF BEVAN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 30. Mr. Bevan, the missing insurance company director, who is wanted by the police for alleged fraud, is stated to have been in regular communication with persons in England -by means of a special courier known to some of Mr. Bevan’s business colleagues. The Hon. Richard Fellowes, who lost heavily in the Bevan crash, told the Daily Mail: “I had a verbal message from Bevan to the effect that he was sorry he had left us in the cart, but he hoped we would come out of it as well as possible:” ADMIRALTY SUPPLIES. London, May 30. Mr. Amery, replying to a question in the Hous£ of Commons, said it was the practice -of the Admiralty to give preference to Empire produce, even when this involved the payment of a higher price. Use had been made of certain frozen beef shipped from South America by the Board of Trade, but arrangements were now in progress to substitute Empire-grown supplies. In the case of frozen mutton a stipulation was made that it should all be Australian or New Zealand grown. REFRIGERATION RESEARCH. London, May 30. Members of the Cold Storage Ice Association including Sir James Allen .aid Mr. Elder, inspected the new low temperature research station installed at Cambridge by the Food Investigation Board with assistance from the university, as a result of the Cold Storage Association’s request to the Government to establish refrigeration research. Among experiments being conducted at the station is the freezing of beef. GENERAL ITEMS. London, May 30. Leading astronomers from throughput the world have assembled in London to participate in the celebration of the centenary of the Royal Astronomical Society. ( Mr. Hilton Young and Sir P. Lloyd-G-reame will represent the British Government at the Hague Conference. Mr. Lucas will attend at Buckingham Palace on Friday to present the horse Erskine to the King. Lord Balfour took his seat in the House of Lords on Tuesday. The galleries were crowded to witness the ceremonial.
