ONLY ONE CHURCH.
REPORT ON UNITY SCHEME. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received May 31, 5.5 p.m. London, May 30. The committee of the Archbishop of York on church unity, a sequel to the bishops’ conference in 1920, including six Anglicans and six free churchmen, report that there is, and can be, only one church. The churches are local representatives of one church, and the existence of rival denominational churches cannot be regarded as in accordance with the purpose of Christ. The report says every endeavor ought to be made and the resources or the position set forth. A new testament episcopate ought to be accepted for a united church of the future, and similarly a council of the presbytery and the congregation of the faithful should be maintained. The acceptance of episcopal ordination would not imply acceptance of any particular theory regarding its origin or character, or the disowning of past ministries whidi have been blessed by the spirit of God. —Aus.-N.Z.
