AUSTRALIA’S NORTH.
ROBUSTNESS OF SETTLERS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 31, 7.30 p.m. Brisbane, May 3i. Mr. W. M. Hughes has been inundated by deputations, particularly in-sugar interests, pressing various requirements. Speaking at Townsville, Mr. Hughes said that from what he had seen during his present visit he was satisfied the men, women and children of North Queensland exhibited all the qualities of robustness cnaracrerisric of our race, and they were a living refutation of the silly statement that the tropical coast land of the far north was not suitable for white settlement. He appealed to them never to let go the banner on which the policy of a White Australia was inscribed. If Australia could only be saved by black labor then he would say rather l ! et it perish. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
