TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Boxing Association was held at New Plymouth last night. Present: Messrs. E. Jackson (chairman), M. Stagpoole, A. Baker, W. Richards, W. Whitaker, G. E. Jago, R. Paul, A. N. Stephenson, W. Graham, J. Garcia, N. B. Howell, and C. H. Wynyard (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs. Eggleton, Grainger, and Yardley. It was reported that arrangements were now well in hand to ensure the success of the tournament which is to be held on June 15 and 17. The contestants in the professional bouts are all in active training, and good contests should be witnessed. Already a number of entries have been received for the amateur events from senior cadets and territorials, and by the time of the closing date (to-morrow evening) it is expected that sufficient will be in hand to provide two good evenings’ entertainment. In any case, a number of applications have been received from the best amateur talent of the province asking for special matches. Mr. G. E. Jago was appointed to the Sports Ground Committee, vice Mr. N. B. Howell resigned. A letter was received from the Eltham association regarding dealing with a boxer who tailed to put in an appearance. Some discussion ensued regarding the functions of the Provincial Council and the Centre Committee, and it was pointed out that under the rules of the New Zealand Boxing Council the former had no status. It was considered that the Centre Committee as at present constituted gave he New Plymouth association an undue preponderance of power, and it was decided that five members of the local association, together with two members of the Stratford and Eltham associations, should form the centre, .as provided by the rules of the New Zealand association. Messrs. C. Jackson, G. E. Jago, J. Garcia, W. Graham and R. Paul were appointed to represent the Taranaki association, and the other associations are to be asked to nominate their members. Several new members were elected. An invitation was received from Mr. T. Thompson for the committee to visit his rooms on Monday evening and see his pupils in action.
