SPORTS GROUND COMMITTEE.
THE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT. ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY. A meeting of the New Plymouth Sportsground Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs. A. L. Humphries (chairman), F. J. Hill, J. Kenny, A. Roberts, J. McLeod. F. C. Perry, J. Garcia, C. Townsley. G. E. Jago, E. Jackson,.L. Little (secretary). It was reported that fourten teams had entered for the seven-a-side tournament on Saturday, viz.. High School (2), Old Boys, Tukapa (2). Star (2), New Plymouth Technical College. Stratford (2), Inglewood (2), Clifton, and Kaponga. Entries from other teams were also expected. The arrangements for the draw were left in the of Messrs. McLeod and Jago.
It was resolved that the tournaments be played with two seven-minute spells, with an interval of one minute. Teams are to be in readiness to take the field within three minutes of the advertised time, otherwise they will be liable to disqualification. A ten minutes’ spell is to be allowed before the final match is played. It was resolved that a force down other than a dead ball should count half a point against the defending team. The matches are to be played until one side wins.
Mr. C. E. Sadler was appointed call steward and Mr. L. B. Webster black board steward. The shield and medals will be presented on the ground at the conclusion of the final. Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P.. is to be asked to make the presentations. The chairman reported that arrangements had been made to delay the evening train on Saturday so as to depart from New Plymouth at 5.15 pjn.. Excursion tickets would be available. The chairman reported that arrangements had been made with the Park Board whereby their men would keep the ground in order throughout the year at ! a fixed price. The caretaker was authorised to get the necessary timber to repair the seats. The secretary reported that the sum of £4 7s had* been received from the New Plymouth Association Football Club as the proceeds of cue recent match against a team from the steamer Makalla. It was resolved to forward the club a letter of appreciation.
