A ROYAL MATINEE.

LAUDER. AMUSES KING. London, May 9. Wonderful demonstrations of loyalty occurred at Drury Lane Theatre at a matinee in aid of the Newspaper Press Fund, attended by the King and Queen and. the Duke of York. Before 5 a.m. people began to gather in a queue, many messengers and men out of work being employed in keeping positions for patrons. By noon the crowd extended for hundreds of yards. The arrival of the Royal party at 2 p.m. was the signal for ringing cheers and hand-clappmg. The theatre was full of notable people'. Sir Harry Lauder made the hit of the afternoon with his song, “The Prince of Wales askeA me up to tea, saying ‘Come and have tea with mother.’” The King and Queen joined in the roars of laughter.
