In the sixth round of the golf championship Hunter beat Carter one up; Scott beat Wethered two up and one to play; Holderness beat Hillton four up and two to play; Caven beat M’Kenzie at the 22nd hole.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. Received May 28, 5.5 p.m. London, May 26. In the semi-finals, Holderness beat Hunter, 2 up and 1; and Caven beat Robert Scott, 1 UPIn the final, Holderness beat Caven, 1 up. Twenty thousand people watched the final, during which a Mr. Henderson, a retired Scottish school inspector, fell dead on the edge of the sixth green. Play was of a very high standard, and it was the best championship for many years, the result remaining in doubt until the end. Holderness being English, and Caven being Scotch, gave the game an international aspect. The spectators were commendably Impartial in applause. Caven was one up at the ninth hole and two at the twelfth in the first round. Holderness squared at the sixteenth and won the eighteenth, while he was two up at the first hole in the second round. He won the third, lost the fourth, and squared at the eighth. Holderness won the ninth and sixteenth, making him two up, while Caven won the sevententh and halved the eighteenth. . Holderness, who Is aged 32, is a son of Sir Thomas Holderness. He . holds a Government appointment. He played for Oxford University, and now plays for Walton Heath. He *s one of the most stylish ajid finished golfers tn England, and is a pupil .of James Braid, but displays-no similarity to Braid’s game.
