OVERSEAS TRADE.
THE PORT VICTOR ARRIVES. An indication of the growth of the intercolonial and overseas trade of the port of New Plymouth was provided yesterday morning, when the Kaitoke, which has been unloading an Australian cargo of coal and sleepers, sailed for Newcastle at 8.10 a.m., whilst at 10 a.m. the t.s.s. Port Victor, a C. and D. liner of 7280 tons, arrived from the same port to load produce for London. The vessel had a very rough trip across the Tasman, experiencing the full force of the south-east gale. She left Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon, the trip thus taking over 4| days. Heavy seas were running and comparatively smooth water was not reached until the vessel arrived about 20 miles off the coast. The vessel brought a few passengers from Newcastle. The Port. Victor is expected to clear port on Thursday, the Canadian Constructor being due at New Plymouth the same day from New York via Wellington with 17,500 cases of benzine and kerosene for discharge at this port.
