PANIC AT WRECK.

LASCARS RUSH BOATS, LOSS OF THE EGYPT. STORIES OF SURVIVORS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 25. The survivors from the Egypt have returned to London. There were affecting scenes at Victoria station when they met their relatives. Survivors confirmed the reports that when the collision occurred the Lascars took panic and rushed the boats. Professor Turnbull asserts that he saw one boat crammed with Lascars and another half full, containing Lascars only. Captain Carr, of the Egypt, states that’ the Lascars got out of hand and rushed the boats. One boat got away with Lascars, and a second, partly filled with Lascar firemen, practically the last boat, was being launched when he drew a revolver and jumped into the boat, waist deep in water, and made the Lascars return to the ship, while the women got on board. None of the Lascars fired shots, as they had no revolvers, but it was a very lively ten minutes. Mrs. Turnbull said the Lascars were perfectly dreadful and rushed about like madmen. But for the Lascars they would probably have got away peacefully. The officers of the Egypt were magnificent and the women behaved very bravely and jumped into the water fearlessly.
