The past month, according to various wholesalers in Wellington, has been a good one (says the Dominion)., Trade has been better and buying has been on a fairly largescale. Hitherto retailers have been purchasing from hand to mouth, and were afraid to lay in stocks because of falling prices, but prices have steadied for the time being, and there is more confidence. Tlje drop in values is not so marked in foodstuffs as in other commodities, but the generallv lower values have been welcomed. Traders appear to be taking a more optimistic view , and it is the development of a spirit of optimism that is the beginning of ail periods of prosperity. The best authorities agree that the trade outlook in Britain has improved. Definitely improved conditions are reported in some industries:, orders are coming forward more readily and are of more satisfactory volume. It is no doubt due to a; feeling of greater security on the part of both manufacturers and buyers with regard to future prices that the improved tone and the increase of business is in some measure due, manufacturers feeling free to develop ahead, and buyers seeing little reason for holding off from filling their requirements.
