Mr. N. A. Foden, 8.A., LL.B., was oi Tuesday morning admitted by Mr. Jus tiee Hoskings at Wellington as a barris ter of the Supreme Qourt of New Zea land. Mr. Foden’s parents reside ii Hawera.

Arrangements have been made for the visit of Mr. Sastri to Australasia. He will arrive at Perth on June 1, Adelaide on June 6, Melbourne on June 10, Sydney on June 14, Brisbane on June 19. He returns to Sydney and Melbourne and sails for New Zealand on July 6. A Sydney cablegram reports the death of Mr. Henry Selfe, engineer and surveyor for the Navigation Department. He was for many years engineer on the New Zealand coastal traders Llewellyn and Egmont. He also engaged in gold mining and business ventures. Mr. J. .Down, who has been superintending the establishment of the Hutu prison, near Te Kano, is spending a few days’ sick leave in New Plymouth. He returns north towards the end of the week and Will, formally hand over the prison to the chief warder from Waikeria. Mr. Down himself will then resume his former position as superintendent of the New Plymouth prison. Mr. A. Trimble who for some years has been chief warder at the New Plymouth goal and has had charge during the absence of the superintendent, Mr. J. Down, has received notice of transfer on promotion to the position of chief warder at Waikeria prison. While regretting Mr. Trimble s departure from this district, his many friends will join in extending to him their congratulations on his well-earned promotion.

The death of another of Wanganui’s old residents is recorded in the person of Mrs. Precilla James, \\ho passed away on Saturday at the age of 86 years. The deceased lady arrived from the Old Country in 1875, and, with the exception of a couple of years spent in Patea, had resided in Wanganui for the whole of the intervening 47 years. For 30 years she was a nurse, and gained the highest esteem of rich and poor by her charity and faithfulness. The deceased lady, whose husband predeceased her by •30 years, leaves four sons and one daughter, and 21 grand-children.
