Aug. 12—v. Auckland, at New Plymouth. Aug. 19—v. Wellington, at Wellington. Aug. 23—v. South Canterbury, at h?imaru. Aug. 26—v. Southland, at Invercargill. Aug. 30—v. Otago, at Dunedin. Sept.—2 v. Canterbury, at Christchurch. Sept. 16—v. Auckland, at Auckland. Home matches have to be arranged against Wanganui and Wairarapa, and also possibly against North Auckland. RUGBY UNION. THIS WEEK’S MEETING. Further business at this week’s meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union was:— The Manaia Town Board wrote protesting against the Union charging women and children entering the Manaia Domain on Saturdays. It was resolved to Inform the board that it was the practice to charge women at all grounds, but that children were not charged. A letter was received from the South Taranaki Referees’ Association, drawing attention to tl e necessity of pointing out to all clubs the importance of Laving grounds properly marked out and flagged.—This has already ' been done. , The Association also enclosed a letter from the Okaiawa Club, objecting to Mr. Guy refereeing in the Okaiawa .match ou Saturday, May 20, on the grounds that he was a supporter of the Kaponga Club.—lt was decided to take no action. E. Andrews reported that during the playing of the Tukapa-Star fourth grade match on the racecourse on Saturday, May 13, he had occasion to speak? to an official of the Scar Club about his language, and also for interfering with the play of the boys. The game went on to within ten minutes of time, when te awarded Tukapa a try, which the man in question immediately disputed and called the boys off. All left except two or three, so lie gave Tukapa their kick and told the boys the match was finished, as the Star team had left the field.
The secretary of the Star Club wrote, asking that the .match be re-played, and forwarded a petition signed by thirteen players, stating that they had Jiot left the field. Oh the motion of the chairman and Mr. Neilsen, it was resolved that the Star Club be the referee's decision will i stand, and that the Star Club be asked to show cause why tie manager of their fourth grade team should not be removed from his official position. Mr. Gcodacre, the referee in the Old BoysOkato match, reported both teams for rough play, and notified that lie had ordered L. O'Sullivan off the field.—lt was resolved to caution the player and to draw both teems’ attention to the referee's report. Reinstatements were granted as follows: Senior to first junior: F. B. Lovegrove (Star), W. Fitzwater (Star), T. Crone, W. McGuinness (Tukapa). Tte application of Tukapa for the reinstatement of C. Walshe was deferred. In reply to a request for a ruling regarding the control of players by referees, as asked for by the Referees’ Association, the N.Z. Rugby Union notified that this was covered by rule 32, which read that in case of misconduct by any club, team, player or official, travelling or otherwise, enquiry shall be held by the union directly interested within ten days from the date when such misconduct was brought under the notice of the union interested.
Mr. J. Allen, principal of the Wanganui Collegiate School, wrote agreeing to play the annual match against New Plymouth Boys’ High School at Hawera on July 8. The secretary of the Thames Valley Rugby Union wrote, applying for a match against Taranaki at Paeroa. The Marlborough Rugby Union asked for a match.—Resolved that the requests could not be acceded to. The Wanganui Rugby Union wrote, confirming June 3 as the date for the match against Wanganui, at Wanganui. Mr. W. A. Guy was appointed manager of the team. Wanganui also asked that Taranaki should send a junior team to play a curtain-raiser. — It was resolved that the union could not accede to the request. The Ohura Rugby Sub-Union applied for affiliation to the Taranaki Rugby Union.—lt was resolved to point out that as the district was now definitely affiliated to the Ruapehu Union, -the Taranaki Union had no power to accept the affiliation. The Eltham Club wrote, withdrawing their fourth grade team from the competition, as they could not play on Thursdays. It was resolved that the match between Old Boys and Clifton Fourths be re-played, at the request of the latter, who arrived too late owing to a break-down in their transport facilities.
