A representative meeting cf business men pledged themselves to take immediate action to secure regular employment for all fit returned soldiers, and fitting work for maimed men. They appointed, a working committee and subscribed £lOOO to provide sustenance for needy soldiers while employment was being secured. The Premier acceded to the request by a deputation of suburban mayors and presidents of shire councils that the Government subsidise by loan, on the £ for £ basis, the sum of £154,; 000. which the local authorities intimated they were prepared to spend in providing work for returned soldiers. A demonstration of unemployed is being held on Friday demanding that the Government shall pay the living wage or subsistence wage unlit they find work.
