CURRENCY QUESTION.
AN AFRICAN REPORT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, May 18. The report of the conference appointed to consider the currency question recommends that steps be taken to prevent the further inflation of the currency, and that the policy of a return to the gold basis be steadfastly pursued. The report emphasises the necessity for maintaining the gold standard and a free market in gold, but since immediate deflation might result In a grave crisis, suggests an extension of the inconvertibility of gold certificates till June, 1925. It recommends the removal, as soon as possible, of the embargo on the ex u port of gold bullion, and that export and import be freed from all restrictions.
