The Duke of York represents the King at the marriage of King Alexander of Serbia at Bucharest. , The Labor students of Glasgow University are nominating Mr. H. G. Wells for the rectorship.
Mr. William Jones, chairman of the Whangarei County Council, announces his candidature for the Marsden seat as an. Independent Reformer. Mr. H. J. Grayson, Auckland inspector for the Victoria Insurance Co., has been appointed manager of the Taranaki branch of that company, and leaves for New Plymouth about the end o£ May.
The death took place at Stratford on Thursday of Mrs. E. Williams, an old resident of the Stratford and Midhirst districts, at the age of 76 years. Deceased settled in the Midhirst district about 32 years ago with her family, who were engaged in the •sawmilling business, her first husband (the late John Derby) having died some years previously. Later she married again, and. about two years ago went to reside with her daughter in Stratford. She is survived by three sons, Messrs. G. H. and W. Derby (Kopaki) and H. Derby (New Plymouth), and three daughters, Mesdames G. A. Vincent (Stratford), J. Kitchen (Morrinsville) and A. Lord (Ureriui). There are also twenty-one grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her husband died about 10 years ago.
