WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very successful children's plain and fancy-dress, public party was held in the Ware* Hall on Friday evening. Much of the success 1 was due to the energetic ladies' committee, Mesdames Lawrence, H. Magon.Fowles, C. Corbett, F. Johns, and E. Johns. The children had been having practical dances for several weeks, and Miss Isabel Sole has been most kind in playing for the dances, whilst tie dancing was principally taught by Mrs. Fowles and Mrs.,.E< Jbjins. Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Gerrard were assisting at the earlier practises. Sole, Miss Pearson, Mrs. Doyle, the Misses Julian, and Mr. M. Payne for playing for the dances, and all those who so kindly helped with donations of supper. Dancing was kept going for the children till 12.30 a.m., when the grown-ups took 'tie floor. The annual library dance will take place in June on a date to be duly advertised. Also the bachelors’ ball is to be planned later. MOKAU—-AWAKING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The o.v. "Makoo” ran into Mokau on May 6, Captain Gibson in command. , After unloading a cargo of merchandise for our stores and settlers she left for Waitara again with a full cargo of wool. The weather has been very wet and cold during the last ten days, and our roads have therefore become bad for traffic, although Mr' Townley and Lis men are working at top speed to get them really fit before winter is quite upon us. Mr. A. G. Sampson is to be congratulated upon the good work he has put into the. snagging punt, which he has built to order of the Mokau Harbor~ Board for use on the Mokau river. When that is finished we are expecting to see our mines again opened, and happy gangs of brawny miners sending out millions of tons of our splendid household coal, which only wants to be once used to be always used. It is a clean, steady burner, and is spoken highly of as being also a good coal for steaming purposes. The Public Works Department are using it for their steam navvy, which is at work on the Awakinc Valley Road. The Mokau Dairy Factory intends closing down at the end of May. They are at present receiving cream only once a week. That’s the style Awakino. Go ahead. Mrs. E. Northern and Miss Frances Northern are visiting friends in Hawera. Miss Belle Sampson, of Mokau, is at present the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. Maine, of New Plymouth. Messrs. Chambers Bros., of Mangatoi station, on the Mokau river, have acquired new property there, which, we hear, they intend using as another dairy farm. This will mean a greater supply of cream for our factory. Miss C. Orr, who was in charge of rhe Mokau School last year, was visiting friends in the district during the holidays. She is at present sole teacher at Arawhata, near Opunake. Mrs. Calvert, sole tearffcer at Awakino, Is proving herself a popular and capable officer. We see tl'at Mr. T. C. List, president of the Taranaki Chamber \bf has gone on a holiday trip to Australia. Mr. List was through here a few montns ago with the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, and as president, took a great interest in the affairs of our district, and we wish him a jolly good time abroad and a safe return. Mr. Robt. Patterson’s eeaith still continues to improve, and tis return to Mokau Is . Expected this week. We hear that genial "Jimmy" McGonman is shortly coming back among us. Let us hope it is true, we shall be glad to welcome his jolly smiling face back to our shores. Mr. Peterson, of Ahltiti, who was lately married, has just compUeted a fine new house for the reception of his bride.
